Bill

Howard: So Bill, how long have you been playing in bands?

Bill: Ever since my hair has looked like this but without the gray! Everyone jokes about it, and I enjoy the laugh too – why not? Seriously though, I started playing guitar when I was 13. Listening to The Beatles had a huge influence on me and they were the reason I continued playing music. I joined my first band when I was 16, but I don’t remember what year that was…

Howard: So what bands were you in?

Bill: I was in so many – a few people who go way back with me might remember the Pinups, which was a cover band and Carcass under Glass, which was an original band. Of course, most people know that the ViBE was formerly known as Acoustically Challenged.

Howard: So you were in an original band, what was that like?

Bill: Well we all had the dream of making it back then – it was a tough business, but we had a great time trying and had moderate success. We had a good following, got radio play, and were written up in Alternative Press. The article about us was facing a page with an article about a new and unknown band called…what was their name again – oh yeah, Nirvana. Bad timing on our part…

Howard: So if you were written up in Alternative Press, what was Carcass Under Glass like?

Bill: We were like The Clash (musically) meets early Bowie (with the make up), if that makes sense to people.

Howard: To make that kind of music you must have had some interesting musical influences, who were they?

Bill: Beside The Beatles, I loved The Clash, David Bowie, Mott The Hoople, Aerosmith, and Led Zeppelin. I really like classic rock, but listen to a lot of different types of music.

Howard: So given all your musical experiences, what stands out for you?

Bill: I guess two things stand out. The first would be opening for The Sweet at The chestnut Cabaret- you might remember their hit “Ballroom Blitz.” The second would be playing with Earl Slick (guitarist for John Lennon and David Bowie) at the Fillmore in NYC a few years ago, where we opened for Extreme.

Howard: Well it was good to learn a little more about you and I hope we can update this once in a while.

Bill: Sure – we can do that, see you next time. Thanks Howard.
